Big Bend National Park – Texas

Mauna Kea – Big Island, Hawaii

Ideal Nights: 3–4 nights (combine with island exploring)

Why It’s Special: Home to one of the world’s most important observatories. While the summit requires a 4×4 and acclimatization, the visitor center is ideal for stargazing.

Death Valley National Park – California/Nevada

Best Time to Go: November to March

Why It’s Special: Dry, vast, and isolated. A Gold Tier Dark Sky Park where you can camp under a black velvet sky filled with constellations.

Chaco Culture National Historical Park – New Mexico

Why It’s Special: Combines ancient ruins with stargazing — perfect for the spiritual solo traveler. Very remote. Stargazing events available in summer.

Glacier National Park – Montana

Best Time to Go: July–August for clearest skies

Ideal Nights: 3–5 nights

Budget Range: $600–$1,300

Why It’s Special: Combine wild mountain scenery, quiet nights, and crystal-clear skies. Plan your trip around a Perseid Meteor Shower in mid-August for max magic.
