Below is a personal story shared by someone trusted to highlight the importance of planning ahead and having travel insurance. Thank you to Jennifer C for sharing this with us.
“I just wanted to tell everyone if you are traveling, why traveling with travel insurance and a high limit credit card is a must. My aunt had a full on medical emergency immediately as we pulled into Nassau (we were on a cruise.) The staff literally saved her. She was transfered to the ICU at doctors hospital and just got air lifted via air ambulance to Miami for surgery. To get off the ship was $4k. Ambulance to hospital $3k. ER $3k. Admittance to ICU $50k. All of this had to be paid immediately. Also they couldn’t even schedule the air ambulance until we showed we had a zero balance for the hospital. Which all makes sense. But she is getting reimbursed via her travel insurance thankfully. I will never travel without travel insurance and a high limit card ever again.
It also was a huge help that she literally had a water proof binder in her backpack with all the information you could ever think of. It made plan of care so much smoother. So that is my PSA for the morning.”
